NSF Certification

NSF certification

The NSF certification we have obtained demonstrates our commitment to quality and safety in food products. At the same time, it guarantees traceability from raw materials and the manufacturing process right through to the product delivered to the customer.

The National Sanitation Fundation (whose abbreviation gives rise to the famous and recognized acronym NSF) is the international organization responsible for establishing product and process quality standards in terms of food safety.

NSF’s mission is defined by them as “improving the health of humanity and the entire planet.” Consequently, it deals not only with issues related to health, food, water, and product safety standards, but also considers environmental protection a priority.

NSF certification is therefore an important, comprehensive tool for protecting safety and sustainability, serving as a guarantee for what the end consumer receives.

Historical background of NSF certification

NSF was founded in 1944 with the aim of establishing precise quality standards and defining all the necessary paths to achieve the set results. It has always supported the concepts of testing, verification, and certification for a wide range of products and services.

NSF certification therefore fulfills a specific obligation: to assure end consumers and intermediaries that products meet the established quality standards.

The first standards for food equipment safety, identified as NSF1 and NSF2, date back to the early 1950s.

In 1960, the “safe water systems” project was launched, with particular reference to the safety of plastic piping dedicated to the transport of drinking water.

The following decade saw a consolidation of commitment in the field of drinking water treatment.

In the 1980s, the United States and Canada adopted NSF standards 60 and 61 to regulate drinking water safety.

Historical background of NSF certification

The path was definitively set: starting from the 1990s, NSF was recognized as a global entity, and NSF certification became an undisputed worldwide standard. Subsequent development included NSF certification as a reference for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and biotechnological sectors, with additional focus on the environmental management of products, systems, and supply chains.

Over the years, NSF has significantly expanded its activities to become the leading reference, active in over 110 countries with more than 40,000 client companies. It also officially and actively collaborates with the WHO (World Health Organization) – who.int

NSF certification today

NSF certification is synonymous with impartiality, fairness, and transparency. The verification and testing procedures are based on meticulous documentation and are designed to highlight objective evidence.

Today, NSF certification has become a fundamental tool for consumers worldwide, who can rely on the high safety standards of certified products.

Today, the NSF logo can be found on a wide range of products on the market, testifying that products and production processes have passed tests and obtained NSF certification. Examples include piping, filters for water treatment systems, valves and components for food machinery, coffee machine filters, fittings for water systems, household appliances such as dishwashers, and dietary supplements.

NSF certification accreditations

Given its growing importance, NSF has obtained significant accreditations that underscore its fundamental commitment to spreading quality and operational standards. In particular, accreditation from ANSI – American National Standards Institute – ansi.org has contributed to increasing the recognition of NSF certification.

The official list of accreditations is available at the following address.

The challenges facing NSF are both demanding and ambitious: combining compliance with rigorous quality and safety standards with the management of sustainability strategies, with specific reference to the predicted future scarcity of water and raw materials.

Gpl Eredi di Ghidini Pierluigi Srl produces commercial food equipment and has obtained and regularly renewed the relevant NSF certification for these products.

To encourage the trust of end consumers and industry operators within supply chains, NSF has established an online system to publicize issued NSF certifications. Thanks to this transparency initiative, anyone can verify the existence and consistency of any NSF certification.
